Vaital Deula   Bhubaneswar

About Vaital Deula

Varahi Deula is an old ninth century constructed temple arranged on the eastern bank of Orissa in Puri district. The Varahi temple of Caurasi is novel in more than one way. The picture cherished in this temple is thought to be one of the magnum opuses among the pictures of the divinity discovered all finished India.

Baitaḷa Deuḷa Temple's striking component is the state of its haven tower. The semi-barrel shaped state of its rooftop is a main case of Khakhara request of temples—which bears a proclivity to the Dravidian Gopuram of the South Indian temples. Its gabled towers with a line of Shikharas uncovers unmistakable indications of southern intrusion. The arrangement of the deuḷa is elongated and the Jaga mohan is a rectangular structure, yet inserted in each point is a little backup holy place. Baitala deuḷa gloats of a few figures, albeit executed in alleviation, are however portrayed by delicacy of highlights and immaculate equipoise.

The external dividers are encrusted with boards of Hindu gods, for the most part Shiva and his partner Parvati in her Shakti shape, chasing parades, catching of wild elephants and the incidental suggestive couples.

The exterior of the deuḷa over the left of the Jagamohana is commanded by two Chaitya windows—the lower one having a delightfully cut figure of Surya the Sun God noted for its outward appearance, with Usha (Day break) and Pratyusha shooting bolts on either side and with Aruna in front, driving a chariot of seven steeds.

The emblem in the upper Chaitya window houses a 10-outfitted Nataraja or moving Shiva. Before the level roofed Jagamohana is a stone post assuaged with two Buddha like figures situated in Dharma-Chakra-Pravartana mudra.

Another striking component is temple's Tantric affiliations, set apart by frightful carvings in the sanctum and the picture revered in the focal specialty, eight equipped Chamunda, privately known as Kapaḷini, is the frightening type of goddess Durga. Consequently, Baitaḷa Deuḷa is a Shakti hallowed place.
