                  Belgaum has for long been a center for Jainism, and the region houses many Jain saints and scholars.Kamal Basadi is located inside Belgaum fort. The Kamal Basadi has been built in the later Chalukya style. present and future Tirthankars - 24 for each period. The Sanctum Hill has an idol of Bhagwan Neminath, the 22nd Jain Tirthankara, seated on a stone carved Sinhasan

     

           Besides the main idol of Neminatha are idols of Bhagwan Sumatinath in a standing posture, Bhagwan Adinath in a padmasana posture, Bhagwan Parshwanatha in a sleeping posture under a seven headed snake. There are also the Navagraha idols located in the premises.

 
       The temple has a bee hive shaped nagara styled layered shikhara. Surrounding the same are various sculptures of animals, snakes and deities.The ceiling of the sabhamandapa in particular is very beautiful, with a intricately carved seventy two petal lotus (kamal) design
 
     There is also another temple called Chikki basadi in the vicinity. It houses the ancient idols Bhagwan Suparswanath and Bhagwan Parsvanath said to have been found in the tent and elevent centuries respectively. 

       Chikki basadi also has a verandah with delicately carved walls and pillars.There is a well maintained garden and green lawns inside the temple premises which add to their beauty. The local Doddannavar family (besides the Archaelogical Survey of India) and the Upadhye family take good care of the temple premises as they have been doing for their past several generations.

      Kamal Basadi has pillars that are carved and brightly polished. It is believed that the idol of Bhagwan Neminath was found in the jungle about 200 years ago. The idol and the statues belong to the eleventh century AD.

       Kamal Basadi is one of the two famous Jain temples. Belgaum has been a center for Jainism and the region houses many Jain saints and scholars. It is built in the Chalukya style in 1204 AD by Minister Bichirja of the Ratta dynasty. It has a tiered, pyramidal roof over the shrine. Inside the temple, the dome above the mandapa has a beautiful lotus carving, with 72 petals. Of these, 24 petals have figures of the last 24 Thirthankaras. The further 48 petals are for present and future Thirthankaras. The Kamal Basadi gets its name from this great Lotus sculpture. Kamal means lotus in the local language. This lotus dome and the roof are supported by beautifully carved and polished pillars.  

Kamal Basadi opening time is-8am to 5pm. sunday to saturday.

The temple conducts pujas actively.
