About Grishneshwar temple

Grishneshwar Temple, the twelfth Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva, is an important pilgrimage site for Shaivites in Aurangabad. Red rocks are mainly used for the construction of the temple, which consists of a remarkable five-tier shikara. Inside the temple is a beautiful display of carving-work of other gods and goddesses. As per beliefs, a staunch follower of Lord Shiva once found a treasure inside a snake pit and devoted the money to build this temple. It is located close to Ajanta and Ellora Caves and the nearest airport from Grishneshwar Temple is in Aurangabad.

The Grishneshwar Jyothirling is situated in the Western state of India, Maharashtra. The temple is just 20Kms away from Daulatabad which is nearer to Aurangabad. The temple premises is very spacious and surrounded by a large wall on all the four sides. The Jyotirlinga and the Goddess, Grishneshwari, both are seen inside the Garbha graham. Lot of artwork can be seen on the walls.

Koneru is nearer to the temple and considered very sacred. Ellora Caves are just two kilometers from the temple. These caves are the integration of Hinduism, Jain,
and Buddhism. There are total 34 caves which are very famous for the art they show on the entire walls. These caves are made between 6th and 10th century. Ajanta caves, Kailasa caves, Aurangjeb Tomb, Bibi ka Makbara, Pancake, Mini TajMahal are some more in this list.

Kusuma became extremely depressed when she came to know that her son had been killed. However, she continued worshipping the Lord. It is said that when she immersed the lingam into the tank, after her the death of her son, he miraculously came back to life again. The legend further goes that at that time, Lord Shiva appeared before Kusuma as well as the villagers. It is said that on Kusuma's request, Lord Shiva manifested Himself at the very site, in the form of the Jyotirlinga Ghusmeshwar. From then onwards, the temple is highly revered by people and attracts devotees from far and wide.

From Aurangabad, Velur is at a distance of 29 Kms. Aurangabad railways station is on the broad gauge line between Secunderabad and Manmad. The distance between Hyderabad and Aurangabad is 615 Kms. From Manmad, Aurangabad is only 115 Kms. 
There are very
less lodges available in Velur. Travellers better stay at Aurangabad.
