About Chotila
In the small village of Chotila is situated the holy shrine of Chamunda mata. As with most of Chamunda devi shrines, this temple of Chotila is on top of a hill too. The temple is believed to have build by a devotee in whose dream Devi appeared. The temple has been renovated and the darshan hall has been extended. The new steps and corrugated sheets above the steps have been donated by the Ambani brothers. Chamunda Mataji is the Kuldevi (family Goddess) of many Hindus. Approximately 155 years ago, Mahant Shri Gosai Gulabgiri Harigiri Bapu was the temple priest and his family members are taking care of shrine and providing services to the visiting devotees till date.
The legend states that the Goddess appeared in the dreams of her devotee told that she was under the earth on Chotilo hill. He was instructed to dig in a certain spot which he followed, and found the beautiful idol of Chamunda Maa. At that spot the temple was constructed and the Goddess worshipped.
